Crown Prince Resolution No. (6) of 1996 Regarding the Khalifa Award for Education
We, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi,
Having reviewed Federal Law No. (1) of 1972 concerning the competencies of ministries and the powers of ministers, and its amendments,
And Federal Law No. (8) of 1973 concerning the civil service in the Federal Government, and its amendments,
And Federal Law No. (4) of 1976 on the establishment and organization of the United Arab Emirates University, and its amendments,
And Emiri Decree No. (15) of 1976 regarding the Crown Prince's Court, and its amendments,
And Cabinet Resolution No. (10) of 1980 regarding the system of the Ministry of Education and Youth,
And Cabinet Resolution No. (1) of 1987 regarding the organizational structure of the Ministry of Education,
And based on the proposal of the Minister of Education, and in our belief in the importance of the teacher's role in educating the youth and in line with the call of regional, Arab, and international organizations to highlight the role played by the teacher,
Have decided the following:
Article: (1)
An annual award called the (Khalifa Award for Education) shall be established, with a value of twenty-five thousand dirhams for each honoree.
Article: (2)
The award aims to achieve the following:
- Highlighting the importance of the role played by teachers in society and reinforcing the status they should hold in their community, through their commitment to nurturing and caring for generations.
- Motivating citizens of the United Arab Emirates to enter and engage in the teaching profession.
- Honoring distinguished, creative, and ethically committed teachers whose contributions are ongoing, or veteran educators whose contributions have ceased for valid reasons.
- Enriching the educational field with research and studies that serve the educational process and enhance its outcomes.
- Inspiring the community, with its individuals and public and private institutions, to appreciate the role of the teacher and support the educational process.
Article: (3)
The award shall be granted to the following individuals:
- Citizens who worked in non-formal teaching (male and female Mutawwa'a before the establishment of formal schools), to be granted to those who are living or to their heirs.
- Teachers who are citizens of the state and have worked in education, based on their seniority, distinction, and commitment to professional ethics.
- Teachers who are not citizens of the state and have worked in education, based on their seniority, distinction, and commitment to professional ethics.
- Teachers who have submitted outstanding educational research that serves the educational process.
Article: (4)
An amount of (three million) dirhams shall be allocated annually in the budget of the Crown Prince's Court to cover the value of the award and its administrative expenses. Disbursement from this amount shall be made by a decision of the Award's Board of Trustees.
Article: (5)
A Board of Trustees for the award shall be formed by a decision of the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, based on a proposal from the Minister of Education. The Board shall be entrusted with the following powers:
- Drawing up the general policy for the award's activities.
- Determining the number and individuals for each category of honorees mentioned in Article Three of this resolution.
- Establishing the criteria for granting the award.
- Approving the annual budget and the final account of the award.
- Establishing the financial and administrative regulations.
- Any other matters the Board deems necessary for the conduct of its work.
- Forming permanent and temporary committees and defining their competencies according to the needs of the award's work.
Article: (6)
The term of the Board shall be three years, renewable. The remuneration of its members shall be determined by a decision of the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
Article: (7)
This resolution shall be effective from the date of its issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette.

Article one of the resolution, according to the latest amendment - Crown Prince Resolution No. (6) of 2007 concerning the Khalifa Award for Education and the formation of the Board of Trustees, states: "The name (Khalifa bin Zayed Award for the Teacher) mentioned in the aforementioned Crown Prince Resolution No. (6) of 1996 shall be replaced with (Khalifa Award for Education)."
